Description
Irish Free State Army helmet Model 1927 manufactured by Vickers, the outer helmet has been repainted however the inner looks to be original finish and is nicely maker marked, the liner is of the correct leather type and there is a replacement leather chinstrap.
The Irish M27 helmet was based on the German WW1 M16 Helmet and was used between 1927 – 1939 after which they were normally painted white and issued to Civil Defence, Around 10,000 were originally made however after WW2 the majority of them were crushed and bulldozed into the foundations of new military buildings therefore are quite scarce now.
