Lewis Gun 97 round magazine, ultra rare item in very good condition. This example is even more unusual as it is US made and configured to .30 cal for the Savage manufactured gun. The drum is very solid but has been exposed to some surface rust at some point, – see pictures – and the mounting catch is strong. The leather strap is excellent, but is a post war replacement
The 97 round magazine was commonly issued to the RFC for use in aircraft due to the larger capacity, and the leather strap made changing magazines easier whilst in flight.
